FIBA World Championships Men
The 2010 FIBA World Championships will be hosted by Turkey from 28 August to 12 September 2010. It is organized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Turkish Basketball Federation and the 2010 Organizing Committee. For the third time since 1986, the World Championship will have 24 competing nations, an increase from 16. As a result, the groups are each playing in different cities, with the knockout round being hosted in Istanbul.
The four cities Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir and Kayseri are confirmed venues to host games during the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
Groups and venues
Group A: Argentina, Serbia, Australia, Germany, Angola, Jordan (venue: Kayseri)
Group B: USA, Slovenia, Brazil, Croatia, Iran and Tunisia (venue: Istanbul)
Group C: Greece, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Russia, China and Côte d’Ivoire (venue: Ankara)
Group D: Spain, France, Canada, Lithuania, New Zealand and Lebanon (venue: Izmir)
The history of Basketball
In early December 1891, Dr. James Naismith, a Physical Education teacher, needed an energetic indoor game to keep his students occupied and away from boredom. After rejecting other ideas, he wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto a tall pole.
