20.07.2006 | INTERSPORT will be the "Official sports retailer of the European Athletics Championships 2006" in Göteborg , taking place from August 7th - 13th 2006.
During the European Athletics Championships, 47 champions will be chosen from among 1,400
athletes from 49 countries. The Championships will take place at Ullevi Stadium with twelve
competitions a day for seven days, three walking races in Skånegatan immediately outside the arena
and two marathon races along a spectator-friendly 10 km course running through central Göteborg.
On Sunday August 6 at 8:00pm, Göteborg will treat everyone to a spectacular opening ceremony
for the European Athletics Championships 2006 at Götaplatsen in the city centre. This will be the
first time that the championships have been officially opened outside the stadium. Daily, there are
32 000 spectators at Ullevi Stadium, 200 000 people in the city and 2 000 media representatives.
The European Athletics Championships take place every four years between the Summer Olympics.
The Council of the European Athletics Association (EAA) decides the venue 5 years in advance at the
fall meeting.
