17.09.2007 | INTERSPORT, the world’s biggest retailer of sporting goods, has renewed its commitment as a partner to the Handball Champions League. The contract extension negotiated by sports rights marketer SPORTFIVE on behalf of EHF Marketing GmbH has initially been signed for the next two years.
The Champions sponsorship package gives INTERSPORT an advertising presence at up to 150 matches
in the European Handball arenas – including INTERSPORT logos on the perimeter boards and floors of
the arenas and on various sponsor boards, the Champions League homepage, a number of hospitality
offerings at the games and the use of the title 'INTERSPORT – Official Supplier of Sporting Goods
to the EHF Handball Champions League’ in its advertising.
“Handball is one of INTERSPORT's core categories, where our retailers can fully leverage
INTERSPORT's strengths such as competence, consulting and service. The Handball Champions League
provides a platform on which we can build our corporate communications long term and across many
European countries. INTERSPORT has been a partner to handball world and European championships for
a number of years as well. This engagement underscores our dominant position in this sport,”
declared INTERSPORT International Corp. CEO Franz Julen. “We will continue to take advantage of
this appealing proximity to European handball audiences in future seasons as well.”
“We are thrilled to keep INTERSPORT as a partner,” said EHF president Tor Lian. "INTERSPORT
has become established on international level both as a sponsor and as a business partner to noted
team sports tournaments. Its decision to keep sponsoring top-league European handball underscores
the successful development of the Champions League.”
“We are delighted that INTERSPORT has decided to remain a partner to the Champions League and
continue benefiting from the long-term and pan-European presence of this sponsorship,” said Thomas
Röttgermann, Executive Vice President of SPORTFIVE. “Starting with the main round, the INTERSPORT
logo will be displayed in prominent positions around and on the field in all arenas.”
